  • The Complete Guide to Carb Counting, 3rd Edition

  • November 14, 2011
  • By: Phyllis Woodson, MS, RD, CDE

The Complete Guide to Carb Counting, 3rd edition, is a thorough and comprehensive book written in an easy to follow style that covers everything that I , as a registered dietitian, would want my patients, especially those with diabetes, to know. The book provides tips I would consider important including information on sodium and fiber and effects of fat and protein on BG. Other health conditions related to hyperglycemia eg cancer and cataracts are reviewed. Explanations of insulin pump terminology, insulin timing, insulin factors, and factor adjustments are also provided. Phyllis Woodson, MS, RD, CDE Diabetes Nutrition Specialist

It reviews how determine carbohydrates in your own personal recipes, in foods from restarants and from food that you purchase at the grocery store and then how to track your carbohydrate intake.

This book is a great starting point and/or support for carb counting. It provides much of the information a Certified Diabetes Educator would share about carb counting but certainly not a replacement for meeting with one.

I love this book! It provides specific examples in a conversational language that is easy to understand. Includes many resources for looking up carbs, tips for modifying specific meals, and self assessments for the reader. For example, it has 'real world' examples throughout like practical tips for eating pizza to lower the carb content.
